          Her story:

Dakota is a 7 year old German Shepherd / Golden Retriever, who was rescued from a puppy mill in Phoenix 2 years ago.

She was adopted 4 times and returned 4 times. She was not trained, not housebroken, had never been in a house and had no idea how to behave.

After a rough start in home #5, she has turned out to be the sweetest, kindest, best companion anyone could ask for. She is a lovebug.

D.E.A.R. Drop Everything and Read Month is an initiative aimed at promoting children’s literacy by encouraging them to read independently and with adults.

The event originated from a passage in the 1981 children’s book “Ramona Quimby, Age 8” by Beverly Cleary, which features a character who enjoys a special reading time in school. April 12 was chosen as D.E.A.R. Day to celebrate Cleary’s birthday, and due to its popularity, the event was expanded to a month-long celebration. Schools and libraries around the world participate in D.E.A.R. activities, where families are encouraged to set aside distractions and enjoy reading together.
